Candle making is fun and easy to do and whether you are making them for yourself or as gifts it is very satisfying. As I said, candle making is easy to do and that includes finding all of your tools and supplies. You can find everything you need at your local craft store. Some of the items you will need include wax, wicks, and molds. Some optional items include fragrances, colors and decorations.

When making candles you want to start by preparing the wax. The best way to do this is with a double boiler. A double boiler is great for melting the wax without burning it.

The next thing you need to do is place the wick. You want to put it in the middle of the mold and proceed to pour in the wax. Now the wax needs to cool. You should let it sit for about five hours before taking out the candle.

A neat trick that works well is putting it in the freezer. Doing this for about thirty minutes can make removing the candle a little easier. Another trick that helps with the candle removal is to spray the mold with a little non-stick spray before pouring in the wax.

The variety of candles you can make is almost endless. There are so many options at your disposal. With so many combinations of colors and fragrances along with the many different decorations, you will never run out of new ideas for your candles.

If you really want to get creative you can even make your own molds. Liquid latex makes fabulous molds but can be a little tricky if you don’t know what you are doing. Do to the flexibility you need to use a piece of cardboard for support. If you cut a hole in the cardboard just big enough to put the mold in it works great. Just remember to only put the mold in up to the lip. With the support of the cardboard now you can pour the wax into the bottom.

If you really enjoy making candles and find that you have a knack for it, you can turn it into a business. It is always nice to make a living doing something that you enjoy. You can be creative and offer people a variety of candles that they can’t find anywhere else.
