Candle Making Molds: Silicone Is Wonderful
The greatest invention to hit the crafting scene is the invention of silicone products. These products take a lot of the guess work and frustration out of everything from candy products to candle making. Because silicone is a non-stick surface, it is not necessary to spend a lot of time doing preparation work to the candle making molds that you intend to use. Then, after the cooling down period, your candles will simply slip or pop right out of the molds without the need of coating them with any type of vegetable oil product, and the wax doesn’t stick so you can use them for food prep without worry.
The silicone candle making molds have the added advantage of being able to with stand extreme temperatures with getting too hot to handle themselves. Make sure that you have the molds on stable cooking sheets or some other similar surface. The cooking sheets work well because the have small lips, or a raised edge all of the way around and helps to keep your molds from moving around and possibly slipping off.

As with any type of candle making molds that you choose to use it is always a good idea to cut your wick three to four inches longer, or higher than the molds you are using so that you have a longer starting point.
Another important part of candle making is to always make sure to use a double boiler process, never ever melt wax of any kind directly over your heat source, not only will the wax burn or scorch but you take the extreme chance of the wax actually igniting and causing a fire. Having a double boiler that is only used for melting wax is a really good idea because you don’t want to have the worry of possible cross contamination between food products and wax products.
Finally, you don’t have to shop exclusively at candle making shops for candle making molds, branch out and look at regular cooking molds that are used for cupcakes, mini-Bundt cakes, candy suckers and many other varieties. Use your imagination and then experiment to your hearts content. If you don’t like what you see, it is a simple matter to melt it down and start over. It is a real win / win situation.
